Night time nannies, or baby nurses, provide the vital service of allowing mothers to recover from the strain of “double childbirth.” By caring for the babies overnight, a baby nurse lets mother have the deep, restorative sleep her body ultimately needs to keep herself healthy. For new fathers, this sleep is also obviously crucial. Older siblings who wake in the night as they adjust to the new babies also benefit from a night nurse, as she allows mother and father to be available to comfort the older child.
On Tuesday morning, I met with the surgeon. He began by looking at this small white head of a bump and then he began relating medical terminology to his nurse. He then said if I had any questions I could ask his nurse and he left the room. His nurse told me that she couldn’t schedule the surgery any sooner than January 3rd.

I even made my own medical dictionary, hand written on binder paper with over 200 medical terminologies and descriptions. I was ten years old and completely unaware that there were dozens of medical dictionaries containing thousands of medical terminologies already published. At age twelve, I took a ten week First Aid course with the American Red Cross. At age fourteen, I spent a summer taking courses with the Mental Health Association in order to be a volunteer certified nurse aid in a school for hyperactive kids. At age fifteen, I became a Candy Striper, volunteering two days a week at a local hospital for a year.
