One of the biggest problems experts face is that they try to do too much themselves. Instead of focusing on what they do best – thinking about their ideas and expressing them to others – they get caught up in the itsy bitsy stuff of creating the products. Things like proofreading, editing, administration, formatting, even the writing itself.
A: I like creating on-going business relationships in general, not just through Elance. So yes, I often go to Elance to find a provider for an initial project, but with the intention of on-going work with them. In fact, I often state this in my Project contribution and ideas.
Look for the best service providers. Go to freelancing sites where you can find some of the best freelance writers from across the globe. Sign up and create a project that service providers can bid on. Keep the project opened for at least 48 hours. This is to give everybody a chance to place their bid. Shortlist those people who have proven track record. Then, verify their skills and carefully review their online portfolio. Don’t forget to interview them and ask for sample articles. Pick those ones that understand your chosen niche and those who have relevant experience. You will need to communicate with your service providers until the project is finished. Ask for regular updates and check the articles before you use them on your internet marketing campaign. Make sure that you pay on time.
Collect Bids – There are only so many hours in the day. If you are at point where you are already burning the small business candle at both ends, you may not have the time to actively seek out a freelancer. There are thousands of freelance professionals online. Searching and sifting through hundreds of websites to find those qualified may be impossible. Place an ad through a freelance board or RFP site. Let those qualified and available come to you.
I outlined what I wanted clearly, and how I wanted writing samples delivered. Nine out of ten respondents obviously didn’t read more than a sentence or two of the projects’ descriptions because they didn’t follow a few simple rules I set out.
You don’t want to wait until the very end to find out they’re not matching your desired tone and style. If you read it early on the process, you can redirect them on the right path.
Website design college students can have a website that remains “under construction” for the entirety of their diploma program. Don’t let that happen to you! Set yourself realistic goals and deadlines, and stick to them – just as you do for your assignments in your web design program.
Work Samples – If you are hiring a freelancer writer or web designer, ask for work samples. Ask if they have previous projects available online that you can view. This will ensure their style is similar to what you are looking for.
