Inspiration. It’s the key to motivation. It’s the key to staying the course, moving forward, trying new things, doing your best work. It’s the spark that ignites the flame. Most importantly… it’s necessary. One of life’s biggest challenges is to do the right thing everyday; to continue the forward march, to push through. Inspiration is what breathes life into your daily routine. It helps you to remember why you do what you do.
Some people find the anonymity of the hustle and bustle of a big city inspiring and comforting. Others draw inspiration from being by themselves, away from everyone. When you are alone you can listen to your own mind and focus.
If what you want to achieve is important to you and you don’t feel motivated, just do it anyway without feeling motivated! Make the decision to do it. Yes this might take an act of will, discipline and determination. Yes it might be unpleasant, require a commitment and you might even have to give up something else. Yet you do it because you know the end result, your goal and that is more important than whether you feel motivated or not. The problem is that most people focus on what they have to give up rather than focussing on the long term gain.
So I spent the week waiting for name inspiration. This got me thinking about inspiration in general and wondering how many sit around and wait for Follow and like my page to hit. You see, that’s something I can’t do. While I was waiting for the name to make itself known, I continued to work on the other images I’m preparing for the gallery. I continued to work on the description that was to accompany each photo. I continued to work on a variety of things that sit patiently in my creative magic box.
There are simple ways to increase your motivation. For starters make sure you are getting enough sleep. It is difficult to be motivated to run a mile if you are still exhausted from work yesterday.
In order to be motivated there needs to be something in it for you. Even if you are motivated to help others, it makes you feel good; it gives you satisfaction, a purpose. You need to create and have a good reason to put in continuous effort. Why else would you put in the effort and generally give up doing something else that you might otherwise enjoy?
If you do the things listed here you will build your self up. You will have a strong positive attitude. And that will keep you doing the work that it takes to hit your goals. You will be able to keep going despite conditions or circumstances.
