One of the best ways to get quality backlinks is by commenting on blogs, particularly blog posts with high PageRank (PR). However, there are two types of blogs for commenting. They are dofollow and nofollow.
I started blogging in March of 2004. I have certainly gained the benefits described above. Beyond those, I have made new connections with potential colleagues and collaborators who have found my blog and sent me comments, feedback or questions.
Furthermore, with blogs, you could adjust the settings so that each entry would be located in one separate web page. This means that if you publish 100 entries, all of which contain a link to your main website, you’d have 100 back links just like that!
If you’re a long way from home, this can also be a great way to keep up with friends and family. Think of it as a great new way to share the baby’s first steps with his or her grandparents.
On the other hand, I say this with a sheepish smile, since follow me are free, I set up another blog in Google for my family and friends where I simply post pictures of the family and news about them. This I have no need to be picked up by web search engines, and just pass out the URL to my kids and close friends. Which is another way to use blogs.
You’ll find all sorts of arguments from so-called “experts” who can explain in great detail why WordPress is better than Blogger, or why TypePad is superior to Joomla. You can even find plausible arguments for saying why you should ignore all kinds of blogging services and have bespoke software developed specifically for your needs.
In its simplest form, a video blog (vblog or vlog) is the posting of serial videos to a website, with an audience response encouraged. Even though this new form of web communication is in its infancy, videobloggers have already started making regular postings online.
The quickest and easiest way to set up a blog (and it is free!), is to go to http://www.blogger.com and follow the directions. They say it takes five minutes. I admit that it took me a bit longer and I am still playing with it, but it is easy! Be sure to check out the many templates and also have an idea (or several) for the name of your new blog. Most of the common ones are already taken.
